First released way back in 1931, the Oyster Perpetual is a Rolex watch in its purest form. It was the first waterproof, self-winding wristwatch to use the patented rotor system that has been the blueprint of almost every subsequent watch in the Rolex catalogue. That’s why you’ll notice the words Oyster Perpetual on the dial of most of today’s watches.

The combination of the waterproof Oyster case design and a self winding movement led to a watch case so perfect and versatile that Rolex decided to use it as the basis of the majority of their future models. Despite the other models it inspired, the Oyster Perpetual has remained in production and offers watch fans a simplified and elegant Rolex ownership experience.
